If you read my last blog, or really almost any of my blogs, you might recall I really like The Message translation of the Bible. It saves lives. I’ve always believed that on a spiritual level, knowing it is the living Word of God. But this week the news reported just how this contemporary version protected in a physical way.
You can read the account here, “Bible stops two bullets to save life of Ohio bus driver, police say”.
The Message literally stopped bullets from entering a man’s chest. Now, in all fairness, I do believe that King James, properly placed, would have achieved the same results; never-the-less, a modern day miracle happened, and God used a book whose title implies God wants us in conversation, to protect this bus driver. The significance cannot get lost.
God’s Word protects us. It comforts us. It strengthens us. It gives us hope. It reassures us of His love, forgiveness and mercy. It reveals Jesus as our Saviour.
So why is it so easy to keep this wonderful knowledge to ourselves, and difficult to share? I don’t have the answer, but do want to work at changing that in my life.
Using the following verses, you guessed it – The Message translation – here is the Gospel laid out. Simplified and sweet, yet powerful and life saving. Take time receive God’s revelation again for yourself.
And then, pray for a precious opportunity to share it.
Genesis 1:26 : God created us to be with Him
God spoke: “Let us make human beings in our image, make them reflecting our nature So they can be responsible for the fish in the sea, the birds in the air, the cattle, And, yes, Earth itself, and every animal that moves on the face of Earth.”
Genesis 6:5-6: Our sin separates us from God
God saw that human evil was out of control. People thought evil, imagined evil – evil, evil, evil from morning to night. God was sorry that he had made the human race in the first place; it broke his heart.
Titus 3:5: Sin cannot be removed by good deeds
He saved us from all that. It was all his doing; we had nothing to do with it. He gave us a good bath, and we came out of it new people, washed inside and out by the Holy Spirit.
1 Corinthians 15:3-4: Paying the price for sin, Jesus died and rose again
The first thing I did was place before you what was placed so emphatically before me: that the Messiah died for our sins, exactly as Scripture tells it; that he was buried; that he was raised from death on the third day, again exactly as Scripture says.
John 6:47: Everyone who trusts in Jesus alone has eternal life
“I’m telling you the most solemn and sober truth now: Whoever believes in me has real life, eternal life.”
Revelation 22:5: Life that’s eternal means we are forever with Jesus
Never again will there be any night. No one will need lamplight or sunlight. The shining of God, the Master, is all the light anyone needs. And they will rule with him age after age after age.
