What’s Your Lower Power?

From the “Omaha World Herald” August 14, 2014

“And then that voice – I call it the ‘lower power’ – goes, “Hey, Just a taste. Just one.”

The demons we face. I’ve never heard the assortment referred to as the lower power. Here down on earth a lower power could be just about anything. Maybe it’s alcohol; there’s drugs and other addictions; there’s the love of money, the breaking of commandments, the hold of the media, the power of marketing, codependency…it’s all out there being used by Satan to scheme and scam us.

And it’s powerful. The above referenced quote was after 20 years of sobriety. Can’t a guy catch a break? Nope. Mr. Devil knows how weak we are, how vain we are, how stubborn we are — and let’s face it – how stupid we are. He knows temptation can be escalated with a sip, a glance, a lie, an obscenity, a desire, an urge, a slap.

So what do we do to combat this lower power?

The battle isn’t easy. We’re human. Temptation can appear at our weakest moments.
So who ya gonna call? The Ultimate Satan Buster

“The Battle Belongs to the Lord” is my favorite praise band song. It sums up Christianity in one simple line. If you let God handle your battle, if you have faith in YOUR HIGHER POWER, your redemption is near. You’ve got the ultimate good guy fighting for you.

The next time Satan comes calling just remember:
In heavenly armor we’ll enter the land
The battle belongs to the Lord
No weapon that’s fashioned against us shall stand
The battle belongs to the Lord
When your enemy presses in hard do not fear
The battle belongs to the Lord
Take courage my friend, your redemption is near
The battle belongs to the Lord

Read God’s Words:
1 Samuel 17:47 (NIV)
47 All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the LORD saves; for the battle is the LORD’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”

2 Chronicles 20:15 (NKJV)
15 And he said, “Listen, all you of Judah and you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you, King Jehoshaphat! Thus says the LORD to you: ‘Do not be afraid nor dismayed because of this great multitude, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.

  1. Jeanie, What a great reminder. Peter says the devil is a roaring lion. Sometimes I think he’s like the small field mouse that enters the smallest hole and eventually take over. Powerful words. Thank you. Doenta
