God works in mysterious ways. I’ve been thinking about a blog on dogs. Then during a recent Bible study on Jonah my ears perked up when I heard the word “hound.”
I like dogs. My daughter just got a cockapoo puppy which she named Archie Harlow. Archie is adorable. Peaches and cream coloring, awesome eyes, perky little thing.
My son’s friend just got a husky chow puppy which she named Daisy Doo. Peaches and cream coloring, awesome eyes, pesky little thing. These dogs must be cousins.
My son’s dog, Sassi, is a black lab mix filled with loyalty and dignity.
Last but not least, there is Grace. I mentioned to my husband after seeing Chris Tomlin perform“Your Grace is Enough” we should name our next dog Grace. And the Spektacular Gracie Lu is enough: a superb hunter wired for action. She’s a fine looking German short hair with gorgeous liver and brown coloring.
I think Jesus would have loved having a German shepherd by his side. His pet would be a loyal companion unlike some of his human disciples. That dog would lick his face and be a source of comfort to him. The dog wouldn’t deny him or betray him. He’d follow him anywhere. And the poor thing would probably lie by his Master’s cross till the day he too died.
Priscilla Shirer’s Jonah Navigating a Life Interrupted video mentions that the Holy Spirit could also be called the hound from heaven. Just like a hound on earth, the Holy Spirit will work into your heart, will guide you, will comfort you, will be your companion through thick and thin.
I like dogs. I’m glad Noah took two of them on the ark.
